ABOUT OUR CLUB

We are quite a new cycling club formed in 2015 and based in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, Merseyside.

Formed by a group of like minded individuals who are solely interested in riding their bikes for fun as well as enjoying hearty cafe stops.

On Sundays we have organised rides for mixed abilities of speed and distance, with the odd hill thrown in too! There are usually at least two groups and the minimum standard expected is to be able to ride 35-40 miles and at an average pace exceeding 13mph. That means within a group new riders will be able to ride further and probably quicker than they have managed before on their own. The faster groups tackle more inclines and go further in distance, taking in the odd sportive or starts away from base. Starts are usually 8am or 9am in the summer and 9am or later if frosty/icy in winter.

New riders are asked to ensure they can attain the minimum standard or they may be asked to train solo some more before trying again

Other rides on other days appear as and when members are available, although newer members are also encouraged to arrange their own rides if they wish.

Just one rule, if its staying local, all rides depart from Tinto Cafe <ADDRESS NEEDS TO BE INSERTED>

Neil Pickles
Chairman

Yorkshireman still looking for the way home.  Rides mostly white bikes, unless they are black, enjoys going uphill but detests descents (weirdo).  Dislikes fence posts. Favourite place is Ecclestone

Chris Hagan
Vice Chairman

Our resident geek on all things gear ratios.  Generally seen riding Italian, British or Taiwanese bikes or chauffeuring the team to sportives in the Korean funbus.  Likes going quickly on the flat, carb loading.  Dislikes any road that points uphill.  A rare commodity usually found next to an upside down bike.

Craig Fairgrieve
Secretary

Still waiting for Hadrians wall to reduce in height so he can climb back over and head home.  Until then our climbing champion enjoys hills, hot weather cycling and chairing a good meeting.  Our resident ghost and chief hibernator; rarely seen unless the temperature is in double figures.

Simon Porter
Treasurer

A slave to the legal profession during the week and of a weekend becomes a cycling superhero. Like hills but can’t get up them, . Rarely seen at the back of the pack.Asks golf professionals for directions when lost

Andrew Owens
Male Captain

Evertonian who discovered cycling to make up for his footballing disappointments. Mostly rides green Italian bikes. Enjoys wine, steak, cake did we mention wine? Dislikes hills and other people planning routes.

Lee Purcell
Kit Secretary

Our multimedia guru and design champion. Dislikes Hackney carriages. Likes gaining ill deserved medals. Rides bikes that sometimes get bent.

Jason Porter

Our calm head and quiet disciplinarian. Sets a good tempo on the front and holds the group together. Sometimes called to give the sermon on a Sunday

Phil Moreton

The lesser spotted Moreton is generally incognito in the group waiting for an opportune moment to pull over to the side of the road and take an artistic picture of his bike. A corporate professional. Just don’t make him wait.

Keith McLaughlin

Keith is like the office cat never to be seen but always around, if you need a decision Keith is your man.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

I’d like to echo Lewis’ and add one or two! By far the best decision I have made this year was to join this club – you are such a welcoming, supportive, kind bunch of people.  I have never felt better on my bike

Alison Doyle

What a great trip.  Huge thanks to the blokes for all of your invaluable support, getting us around safely, and up those monster hills.  Massive thanks to Billy of course for the organisation and advice and planning.  11,670ft of climbing over 3 days, quite proud of that considering 18 months ago I didn’t think I’d ever be back on a bike.  Breathtaking scenery, everlasting memories (inc. Anthony in a blonde wig!) Thank you all and well done to everyone
